Think Before You Pink

October is “Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” but is buying that product with the pink ribbon on the label really helping sick women? Or is it helping make more women sick?

Pink ribbons are everywhere right now, on everything from toilet paper to lipstick. But do you ever wonder how much money from the sale of that bottle of dish soap actually ends up in the hands of sick women, or the researchers who are working to help them? Or, more importantly, how can you be sure that the corporations behind those slickly and sympathetically marketed products aren’t contributing to the problem with the use of cancer causing ingredients and toxic production methods?

Confused by all this “pinkwashing?” Then check out this informative new watchdog blog Think Before You Pink. And if you really want to fight Breast Cancer, give your money directly to those who need it, through a reputable charity like Bowling for Boobies

Last year, me and a buncha broads from Sisters in Crime participated in the annual BFB tournament. It’s a great cause that donates money directly to women on the front lines of the battle against breast cancer. I won’t be able to participate this year, but I’ll be supporting my pal Jane’s team and you should to. Click here to donate now.
